A mouse was the start of it all, and at Walt Disney World, the Magic Kingdom was the first park opened at what would become the huge vacation resort we know today. Opening to guests on October 1st, 1971, the park was a combination of the best its sister-park in Anaheim, Disneyland, had to offer, along with new ideas and several deluxe resorts a short monorail ride away.
Today, Magic Kingdom is the world’s most visited amusement park, and combines classic attractions that Walt himself helped develop and newer additions created by the company’s in house “Imagineers.” And right now is a particularly exciting time in the Magic Kingdom’s history with the new Fantasyland expansion, adding a number of attractions, experiences and restaurants, opening in phases beginning in 2012.
As the signs under the Walt Disney World Railroad state as you enter the park, “Here you leave Today and enter the World of Yesterday, Tomorrow and Fantasy.” The Magic Kingdom is truly a place that no matter your age, you get to feel like a kid for the day. This part of the website is still being built. Soon, it will hold detailed information on all that the Magic Kingdom has to offer, including detailed descriptions of rides and attractions, and insider tips on making your vacation even more magical.
