Outpost

Just after the bridge from China, and before reaching Germany, Outpost is the short interlude along the bend between the two larger pavilions. Originally set to be a full pavilion featuring the African continent, this area is now more of a pit stop along the World Showcase promenade, featuring a small snack shop and a few outdoor shops.

There is patio style seating along the lagoon, with umbrellas at each table which helps keep the hot Florida sun at bay while you sit. The larger rock formations here provide nice scenery, but make the viewing for Illuminations in the evening tough. The spots in between the rocks which look out onto World Showcase Lagoon do provide fair viewing of the nightly fireworks.

Next to Refreshment Coolpost, the snack bar, are several African drums which children will enjoy letting off a little steam by playing with. A variety of boxes, coolers and even an old automobile featuring Coca Cola logos and ingredients are also located here.

Chances are you won’t spend much time at Outpost, but the shops here are worth at least a quick glance for their more unique items. And if you need a quick stop for a drink or to rest your feet, the area is usually not very crowded.

There are no attractions, entertainment, or scheduled character greetings at Outpost.

Dining

The Refreshment Coolpost is a small quick service location here, offering American style snacks and drinks at a counter. Frozen Cokes are the highlight here, which are a slush style creation of the soft drink. Frozen lemonades and strawberry slushes are also available. Hot dogs are the only heartier option here, along with snacks and desserts including bagged potato chips, chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream. Besides the standard fountain soft drinks and bottled water, adults can also enjoy Michelob draft beer.

Shopping

Village Traders is the largest of the three shops in Outpost, and offers African inspired crafts, apparel and other souvenirs, along with a mix of more traditional Disney items. Mdundo Kibanda features hand carved wood and soapstone creations by African artists.

The most recent addition to this area is Bead Outpost, which features recycled bead jewelry, including necklaces, bracelets and more. And what the jewelry is recycled from is what makes it unique: old Disney theme park guide maps.

There is also a face painting booth here, where cast members will apply a work of art (for a fee).
